How do I Change Focusing Screens on the Canon 1Ds Mk3?

While the Canon 1Ds Mk3 features a perfectly usable focusing screen with the manufacturing plant, many photographers would rather change out the standard screen personally that suits their kind of photography. With Canon offering greater than 15 different focusing screens in the Canon 1Ds Mk3, a suitable screen can be obtained to suit any photographer's tendencies and shooting habits. A couple minutes as well as simple tools are all that are needed to make the switch.

Instructions

Remove contact or body cap within the camera and place the camera on the flat surface with a lens mount facing away. Make sure the camera is switched off.

Locate the focusing screen around the camera just underneath a prism housing. You will spot a small tab retaining the focus screen into position.

Using a tweezers, gently pop the tab open at a downward motion. The focus screen should drop down in the small metal frame. Slowly lower the television screen and frame until both arrive at a stop at in regards to 45-degree angle.

Use the tweezers to seize the edge of a focus screen and lift the screen out from the metal frame. Place display on cloth.

Using the actual tweezers gently grab the edge from the new focusing screen and set up the metal holder.

Swing the focus screen into the metal frame back up towards the prism using the tweezers so that no fingerprints are left around the focusing screen.

Snap any tab closed, and you will be finished.
