How to create Prints From 120 Film Negatives

The prints process for 120 film negatives isn't really very different than this for 35mm negatives. You have to make sure you develop the right enlarging lens (minimum focal length 75-80mm) together with a negative carrier with the perfect dimensions for a 120 flick negative. Mastering the subsequent steps with 35mm and 120 film negatives requires patience and practice, but one can find it very rewarding to help make your own prints.

Instructions

Prepare Appearance and Make Test Strip

    1

Carefully place the negative you intend to print in the poor carrier and slide the carrier towards the enlarger above the standard zoom lens. Set the easel in the desired dimensions (8" times 8", 12" x 12", etc). Start the safe-light and go out the room lights.

    2

To place emphasis the image, turn the enlarger light source on and open the aperture towards the widest setting to let the most light to feed. Adjust the height of your enlarger head, moving it down and up until the image appears from the appropriate size on that easel. Focus the image with all the rotating controls quietly of the enlarger.

    3

Make any test strip. The Enlarging lens works an identical your camera lens truly does, except that light tickets through it to project a picture onto the paper, rather than negative. You can control the number of light that passes in the enlarging lens and the number of time that it hands through, just as youre able to adjust the aperture and shutter speed upon your camera. To determine the perfect aperture and exposure time to your print, you will want carryout a test strip. Close the aperture down two stops through the widest setting and set in place the timer to 3 seconds. Get out a cut strip of paper plus set the paper around the easel, using a joint of black cardboard to cover basically one small section (a fifth with the strip, perhaps) of typically the paper. Allow that section to always be exposed for three mere seconds. Then move the cardboard sideways to expose another smallish increment, and expose this as well as previous section together just for three seconds. Continue soon you have uncovered the over-all strip and allowed another section to be presented for three seconds.

Process Uncovered Paper

    4

Place any strip face down in your developer tray and maintain your liquid moving by casually agitating the tray belonging to the corner. For RC document, leave in the developer for 1 to at least one 1/2 minutes; for Fabric paper, allow 2 that will 3 minutes. After that time period, lift the paper belonging to the corner with the tongs and all the fluid so that you can drain.

    5

Move the paper into the Stop Bath. For REMOTE CONTROLLED paper, leave in pertaining to 15-30 seconds; for Soluble fiber paper, leave in for 30 seconds to at least one minute. Lift from corner with tongs and permit fluid to drain.

    6

Move the paper into the fixer. For RC daily news, leave in fixer pertaining to 3 to 5 short minutes; for Fiber, 5 to help you 10 minutes.

    7

Rinse daily news in water wash. A wonderful to leave a check strip in the wash if you would a finished impress (10 to 15 minutes).

Determine Exposure

    8

Take this processed test strip right well lighted room to look for the best exposure time. If the different exposures are far too light or way too dark, you should vary the lens aperture appropriately and make another try out strip. If one department looks right, determine the exposure time of this section and remember in which number.

    9

Return to darkroom. Place a full sheet of paper from the easel and expose it for your determined number of mere seconds.

    10

Process that will sheet of paper based on the steps in the on top of section. Take the print to the light to see for anyone who is satisfied. You may have got to refocus the image or simply adjust the exposure period further. If you are generally satisfied, return the paper towards the darkroom to complete h2o wash before drying.
